Handy Hardware Site Underway

Handy Hardware, a member-owned hardware buying group, has initiated construction facility in the Meridian I-20/59 Industrial Park. This distribution center employ more than 150 people and the company will invest between $15 million and $20 million in the facility.

Based in Houston, Texas, Handy currently operates from a 560,000-square-foot distribution center. Handy Hardware began in 1954 as a group of 13 independent retailers who pooled their purchasing power to pass along cost savings to their customers. Today, Handy Hardware has over 1,200 small hardware retailers who have become the major dealer buying group in the South-Central United States.

Handy Hardware is one of only five member-owned hardware buying groups in the country, and the cooperative currently serves more than 1,200 members in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas, in addition to retailers in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean.
