Harry Mayer Clothiers

Have you ever walked in a clothing store and been greeted by your name and your shirt size?  That’s what happens if you’re a repeat customer in Harry Mayer Clothiers!  They are serious when they say their store is built on relationships, not transactions.  Harry believes the greatest people in the world live in Meridian, MS, and surrounding areas.  The relationships they have with their customers are unique; and this is how they have built their reputation.

Harry’s late father, Harry Mayer, Sr., worked in the clothing business for 34 years.  He opened his own store in February, 1972, and Harry Mayer Clothiers has been open ever since; 47 years.  Upscale men’s apparel and footwear were offered for many years and adding the ladies department was a big part of the store’s success.  Harry Mayer’s is a clothing tradition throughout the area with 45% of their customers living outside Meridian. 

Harry’s advice for someone beginning their journey in retail is; don’t expect to travel interstate all the time.  There will be some gravel roads along the way.  And don’t do it for the money, do it for the passion.  If you only do it for the money you are going to be miserable.  You also have to love interacting with people.   And remember, it takes 30 years, or in this case 47, to grow a tree and only 30 minutes to cut it down.  Treat your customer right, even with returns.  Our return policy is this:  We don’t have one.  If you’re not happy with a product bring it back.

Harry remarked, “In the fabric of our community here in Meridian, each business is a fiber, a part of that community. As a member of the Chamber, everyone is working together to strengthen that fabric.  You have to give back.  The community is your customer base.”.
