Loeb’s fits your lifestyle
In 1867, Alex Loeb was one of 12 children to immigrate to the United States from Germany. He lived in Columbus, MS for 20 years, then moved to Meridian and opened his first clothing store. Starting a new business isn’t always easy, but Alex soon developed the reputation of showing his appreciation for his customers’ business by greeting them personally at the door. The well-dressed Loeb was a colorful character known for his white moustache, ever-present cigar, and hospitable personality. Meridian is a railroad town, and the railroads soon started buying their uniforms from Alex. Then the railroad workers began buying their suits and personal clothing from him because he always took care of them. Loeb’s has always been, very much, a family business, always putting their customers first. Alex’s great-grandson, Robert S. Loeb Jr., now runs the business. What started as a men’s store later began to offer women’s, toddlers’ and infant clothing, sporting goods, Boy and Girl Scout uniforms, and tuxedo rental.
Loeb’s has been a part of downtown Meridian for 133 years. Robert says, “I enjoy doing business in the Meridian area because of the people. I like the fact that our customers are also our friends. We do our best each day to improve and give top notch customer service. Being attentive to our customers’ needs in regard to both designer brands and services offered, is our top concern.”
Loeb’s has been blessed over the years to have so many outstanding and successful employees. Customers are always complimenting the staff on how knowledgeable and well-mannered they have
been. The outstanding merchandise and personnel have out-of-town customers coming back. They say they love the store and prefer to shop with Loeb’s as opposed to shopping in their hometown.
“We belong to the Chamber because they support not only our community, but a growing downtown as well. EMBDC listens to its members and helps make good things happen. We appreciate Meridian and its surrounding area, and are excited to see what’s happening in respect to growth and improving downtown. We welcome our new neighbors, Progressive Pipeline and DC Guitar to our neighborhood,” states Robert.
“Starting a new business can be scary,” he continues, “But if it’s your dream and passion to own your own company, then don’t hold back. Take the plunge and work hard to ensure it succeeds. Two things are most important, taking care of your customer and knowledge of your product. That will make you successful.” In 1877, Alex Loeb saw a need in the railroad community and met it. Today, Loeb’s emphasis is to be a lifestyle store for the entire family. Loeb’s, since 1877, bringing you innovative apparel items and what’s new in fashion. Doing what they do best.
