In 1982, Brad and Sherry Kueven started a computer company in Meridian. They began their company with a national chain that allowed for a high level of training for staff, both sales and technical. It allowed the company to develop relationships with industry leaders such as IBM and Hewlett Packard. Then, the computer industry changed dramatically. Computers went from being expensive to almost a commodity where you could just go in a store and pick one up. In 2000, they changed the name to Business Technologies Group because they wanted to differentiate their company, focusing on business-to-business relationships. The Kuevens sold the company to employees in 2011, which now has four employees, three engineers and an office administrator. Because they can do so much remotely, they have clients as far as West Point, Brookhaven, Hattiesburg and even parts of Louisiana and Alabama.

Business Technologies Group is proud of who they are and how they do business. Their senior level engineers have years of experience, some having been with the company 35 years. They pride themselves on staying up to date, focusing on what their clients need, and having a high level of expertise. The relationships they develop with their clients are so important; some clients have been with the company for 39 years.

Business Technologies Group is a woman owned business. In this type of business, it’s very uncommon for a woman to be part owner. Linda gives new business owners this advice; "Who you work with is one of the most important things in building your business. Interviewing and finding people who are a good match for your company is so important. Be focused on what service you are going to provide and know who your clients are going to be. Ask yourself, ‘Is there a way for me to do my job better so I can bring in more clients?’ Join the chamber. I believe in being a member of the chamber because we are supporting the community and other businesses by our membership; and for the networking that it provides. I appreciate what the EMBDC does and enjoy being a part of it.” 

An important thing right now is network security. All over the news there is information about a breach in data security. It’s very important every business takes internet security seriously.  Business Technologies puts in every measure they can to prevent security breaches. “We are a computer networking company,” says Linda. “We sell computers but our main focus is on supporting and administrating networks for computer systems. We make on-site calls but more and more, particularly during the pandemic, we can remote into their computers and fix things.  It has been extremely helpful for our clients needing to remote into their office computers from home. During the shutdown, we were very busy helping them get set up. We helped our clients get the technology and equipment they needed for zoom calls, web cams and such.”
