There is Hope
Canopy Children’s Solutions is Mississippi’s most comprehensive, non-profit provider of behavioral health, educational and social services solutions for children and families. They offer life changing solutions for autism, behavioral and mental health issues, adoption, foster care, and more. Over four hundred employees annually serve over 5,000 children and families in 17 different locations statewide.
Canopy Children’s Solutions was born in a meeting of the National Children’s Home Society in Columbus, Ohio, in 1910, following impassioned pleas from the heads of two Mississippi-based orphanages. They asserted the state was in dire need of an organization dedicated to placing children in need of a home with loving, caring families who desperately wanted them. On January 2, 1912, the Children’s Home Society was founded in Meridian, Mississippi. They began with only four children in need and 25 cents to their name. The headquarters then relocated to Jackson in 1913, officially incorporating as Mississippi Children’s Home Society (The Society). The name was changed in 2016, to Canopy Children’s Solutions, to better illustrate the mission of the organization.
When a family entrusts Canopy with the care of their child, they provide a continuum of care for children and families. When a child enters Canopy for behavioral health challenges, we keep them “under the Canopy” until they have the tools they need to be successful.
“The community of Lauderdale County provides Canopy Children’s Solutions much support in providing
for our families. When needs arise, the community helps with necessary resources for our most valuable citizens, our children. As a member of the chamber, we have the opportunity to educate other member businesses as to the importance of mental health wellness with their employees and the employees’ families,” says Kym Williams, Director of Public Relations. “It’s important to be alert to the changing needs in the community and be ready to serve those needs. If necessary, be prepared to change your service, while keeping true to your mission.”
Canopy’s Care Coordinators are advocates for children seeking treatment for mental and behavioral health care. They build close relationships with families and caregivers, supporting them as they move through initial assessments and therapies. They work to help children thrive and families overcome extraordinary challenges.
