Not Just Trucking
Davidson Hauling & Construction, Inc, is a small, local company that has the capabilities to perform projects up to $10M. They employ local and buy local. They have been blessed to have an average of 20 employees and operate within a 100-mile radius of their home base in Lauderdale County. They do general contracting, heavy site work, commercial construction, material sales and trucking. Their customer base includes local, state, and federal governmental agencies as well as private businesses throughout East Mississippi and West Alabama.
Ferrell and Diane Davidson started the business, Davidson Hauling & Construction, Inc., with three trucks and two drivers. Ferrell chose to drive the oldest, slowest truck in order to allow the drivers the newer, faster trucks, "Because” he said, “The drivers need to make a good living”. Ferrell did the mechanics on the trucks and equipment, utilizing his background as a Caterpillar Field Mechanic and his years as an offshore mechanic with the Chevron Corp. Diane worked full-time in the office in accounting, estimating, and project administration. The business experienced slow, steady growth with the inclusion of site preparation, and then the addition of commercial building construction. “The death of Ferrell in 2011, strongly tested our personal and business resolve. But our long-time employees and our business community stood strong with us,” says Diane Davidson, Owner and President. Michael Mayerhoff, who had been with the company since 2006, took over operations, and with hard work and God’s help, the company continued growing and stands strong today.”
“We enjoy doing business in Lauderdale County because this is our hometown where we grew our company. We enjoy doing business with the people we know, and have strong business relationships with our customers, contractors, sub-contractors, and suppliers. When customers say they want us to
do their next project, we know we have accomplished our goals. We see our community growing and thriving and we believe our business is a part of that growth.”
“Trucking is only a small part of what we do,” says, Michael Mayerhoff, V.P. “We are capable of handling a construction project from the ground up. We have been in business for 27 years, and the majority of our employees have been with us since the beginning. Therefore, we offer quality work with years of experience.”
Their advice to new business owners; Do your homework, work hard, know your business and the people you do business with, and be willing to diversify your operation. Nothing comes easy. Diane adds, “A community is stronger with numbers, so join the chamber. The chamber offers unity in the support of the businesses in our community. The people that make their living through these businesses, are the strength of this community, and Davidson Hauling & Construction, Inc. plans on continuing to grow our business and our community for years to come.”
Davidson Hauling & Construction’s goal is this: To perform with integrity, respect, and professionalism, to use our expertise, resources, and experience to produce a superior product that all may view in solidarity with pride in the achievement.
