In 2018, Mississippi had 209 opioid overdoses resulting in death. Mississippi Department of Mental Health reported during the year 2018, there were 1530 individuals treated for opioids as a primary substance. Working to combat the opioid epidemic, the Meridian Treatment Center is an outpatient treatment center operated by New Season, a leading provider of specialized care for opioid addiction management and recovery since 1986 with more than 70 clinics nationwide. Their mission is to strengthen community wellness and vitality by addressing opioid addiction with the most innovative health treatments available based on the latest science, research and proven models.
The Meridian Treatment Center believes in the disease concept of addictive illness and that treatment services should be delivered in a way that respects the dignity, value and self-worth of every patient. Patients are enrolled into a comprehensive Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) program, utilizing methadone, generic suboxone, or buprenorphine. They provide individual and group counseling to address psychological and social needs in addition to their chemical dependence. Attending counseling sessions prevents drug relapse, and helps patients deal with stress, repair personal relationships and rebuild professional goals. Group, family and one-on-one counseling sessions are offered for the comprehensive treatment and recovery of the patient. Some patients respond to treatment almost immediately, while others take more time to reach stability.
“We joined the Chamber of Commerce in an attempt to network with more area professionals to better serve our patients and the community at large. We enjoy the small town atmosphere. Every new business should join the chamber because by partnering with other agencies, we make the whole community stronger,” states LaKrystal Love, Program Director.
