Music makes you smarter. Having a music department in the schools helps to promote learning abilities. Music reduces feelings of anxiety and stress. It helps children regulate their emotions. It improves concentration and on-task behavior. Music helps develop language and reasoning. When budgets are cut in public schools, music should not be one of the first things to go. Learning music promotes craftsmanship. It can also take a student through high school and into college and pay for their college tuition through scholarships.
Mississippi Music promotes music education in our schools, with all the accompanying advantages for students. They sell everything to do with music, as far as playing and learning musical instruments and accessories. They service the public schools and visit all the schools in the area to make sure they have all they need to have a successful band program. They deliver to the schools or customers can walk in and shop for themselves. Outside of band instruments, they have electronic keyboards, guitars and amplifiers. Mississippi Music also has a service and repair department with some of the most highly acclaimed and certified technicians.
Mississippi Music was established 73 years ago, in 1946. They were the first Peavey Electronics dealer in the country and still heavily support Peavey. “Working with the community, being helpful, and
filling needs is the most rewarding part of our business, says Barry Jones, Vice-President and Manager. “It’s nothing mundane; you never know what or who’s around the corner.” Mississippi Music has had to adapt with the changes in business. They are competitive online; in fact, their pricing matches online prices. But offering in-store service is something that you can’t get online. “Even if people have bought something elsewhere,” continues Jones, “we do our best to help them.” Because of quality merchandise and customer service like this, Mississippi Music is one of the largest musical retail stores in the country; definitely the largest in the state.
“I had always wanted to be in musical instrument retail and in 1977, my brother-in-law told me about a delivery position here. I was in California with my wife and we came here without a promise of anything. I got here on a Friday night, met the manager, was hired on Saturday, got an apartment Sunday, and started work on Monday! I’ve gone from delivery to management to vice president and board member and stock holder. My wife and I have been here for 42 years,” says Jones. “We support the community; this is our home. We support the growth of downtown and want to see it prosper. We work with Mississippi State, The Riley Center, The Max, and are a member of the Chamber. I am happy to see business returning to downtown and I hope that it keeps growing.”
Need a piano or guitar teacher for your child? They can help you. Need to rent a band instrument for your young student? They have that service. Need your instrument repaired? They do that too. Remember, music is the fabric of our society, and can shape abilities and character. Mississippi Music is here to help you with all your musical needs.
