NFI

A Century of Experience in Supply Chain Solutions

In 1932, Israel Brown established a hauling company out of Vineland, New Jersey. What started as a single truck company has expanded into a leading, multi-faceted, third-party logistics provider servicing North America and parts of Canada. Today, NFI is recognized as a top, privately held, family-owned business led by Sid, Ike and Jeff Brown, grandsons of Israel Brown. NFI owns facilities globally and operates warehouse and distribution space in 29 states, including one facility here, in Meridian.

NFI deals in third party logistics - 3PL. Using a 3PL can potentially eliminate the need for companies to invest in warehouse space, technology, transportation, and employees to carry out logistics processes. By using NFI, companies are able to scale their building’s space, labor, and transportation according to current inventory.

NFI has been in Meridian, in the I20/59 Industrial Park, for 6 years, employing 108 workers. Meridian is the smallest DC in the system with 466,000 square feet. Originally NFI was only going to be in Meridian a couple of years. However, the Meridian team is so good, the company now has plans to stay here. The Meridian operation won safety awards from the company in 2019 & 2020, and in 2018 & 2020, won Facility of the Year!

This facility is one of seven distribution centers that handles Lowe’s products. Meridian handles strictly appliances, delivering to 66 stores in MS, AL, and AR. Even during Covid, the warehouse stayed full. Holidays see a surge in products being delivered and warehoused. And after Labor Day, all companies start stocking up inventory for the after Thanksgiving sales.

Ed Frey, General Manager of NFI states that EMBDC has been a vital part of their continued success in Meridian. “EMBDC really helps us with communications with the County and City. They helped us when we had some erosion issues, getting the county here to take care of the situation. EMBDC assisted us when we needed additional trailer spaces. We were at 136% capacity and really had nowhere to put trailers. They identified alternative sites for us where we could put trailers. They are always working to provide opportunities for all existing industries to get together, meet each other and see each other’s facilities/operations. Because of these events, we feel we can call other companies in the area for advice and information. This all happens because we are members of the EMBDC.

They even help us with day-to-day issues. Our sprinkler system recently activated due to losing water pressure. It was after hours, and we needed the City to assist us. EMBDC was able to get the City out here and get the water turned off immediately. They then helped us locate a plumbing company to repair the line the very next day. One important improvement we need is help getting 11/80 widened and the EMBDC is working with the County and State to get this done. Having this kind of help available from the existing EMBDC Industry Council is one of the things that keeps us in Meridian.”

NFI is a team of thinkers, doers and experts brought together by their commitment to getting the job done. Their dedication to serving their employees and communities enables NFI to consistently rank as a top 3PL. They deliver logistics solutions that transform the way business gets done.
