You are taking care of people from A-Z and looking out for their best interest.  We really push to train our agents well. When I’m recruiting an agent, I hear people say, ‘I don’t know anything about sales,’ and I tell them it’s not about sales. You must learn what real estate is all about.” 

“Our agents check in frequently with their clients to keep them updated. A lot of agents think once they get a signed contract the work is done, but we stress that there are so many things that must continue to be done until closing. We aren’t sales agents; we are problem solvers. Many times, we are working with people who are buying a house for the first time. It’s the biggest financial transaction they have ever made, and they are fearful of making a mistake. Therefore, they put their trust and confidence in their agent, and we make sure we don’t fail them,” says Steve Corey. “How you work with people is critical. We aren’t perfect, but we strive to do our best and provide quality service. We have 14 agents right now; some having been with us for more than 30 years. We take pride in the fact that our agents stay with us.”

Bob Pigford and Robert Corey each started in real estate around 1975 and merged offices in the early 1980’s. Robert retired about 10 years ago, and Steve (Robert’s son) took his part in the business. Steve got his license in 1998 and moved back home to Meridian from Texas. “When I realized I wanted to do real estate, I decided I was going to do it in my hometown where I grew up,” said Steve.

Bob adds, “Meridian and Lauderdale County is a good size area with great people. This day and time you can do a lot on the internet but there is still a personal side to the business. I, too, was born and raised here so I think Meridian is a great place to raise a family. All my kids are here and live within a block of me. I’m all about family and love Meridian and wouldn’t care to live anywhere else.”   

Pigford & Corey Realtor is a buyer and seller agency; buying and selling houses is the main thing they do. They also offer property management for rentals. They have about 30 houses they manage for people. They help renters find properties as well. They sell residential primarily but also commercial property and land. Agents are available on the weekends or after 5pm. Just set up an appointment. They know what’s on the market and you can go to their website and see virtually any house for sell in an area. “We have been around a long time and try to focus on quality,” concludes Steve. “We appreciate the opportunity to work for our clients and help them sell or buy their house. We have sold thousands of homes. We thank everyone when they sell a property to us. I just got an email from a client to whom we had sent a thank you note. They couldn’t say enough good things about their agent. When someone gives a referral that means a lot. You are only as good as your last transaction.”  We believe in the chamber and have always been involved with the EMBDC.
