Poplar Springs Nursing Home

A Nursing Home Community

The idea of nursing home placement is something most of us don’t even want to consider. However, we can’t all offer our loved ones full-time in-home care, and nursing homes can really be the best option. This decision will be much easier if you give yourself time to research the nursing homes that will best match the needs of the individual and family. These are four things to consider when choosing a nursing home: location and size, services, staffing, and patient independence.

In late 2004, Trend Consultants purchased King’s Daughters and Son’s Rest Home and renamed it Poplar Springs Nursing Center. It is now considered one of the best nursing home facilities in this area. Poplar Springs is located at 6615 Poplar Springs Drive in Meridian. It is a 91-bed facility with 69 private rooms, and a 20-bed licensed dementia unit with private dining. Many popular attractions, churches, and restaurants are nearby. There are multiple drugstores within a mile of the facility. They offer long-term care, occupational and speech therapy, short-term rehab, community transition training, and planned daily activities. There are in-house beauty/barber services, social services, and transportation for extra-curricular activities. Meals are planned by a registered dietician. They have in-house physician visits, a four-member therapy team, nursing director and administrator, and participate in Medicare and Medicaid.

“I visited relatives staying in this nursing home. There was a private room for each resident and the facility was well kept. The staff were caring and attentive,” says one family member. “Since working in long-term care here, I have not had family nearby. The residents, their loved ones and the staff have become like close family. When one of them says ‘I love you,’ or ‘You’re part of our family, now’, that means the world to me. That lets you know you have done something right to touch their heart and show the love, compassion, and sympathy they deserve,” adds one staff member.

“Meridian serves an extremely large population of individuals seeking rehabilitation needs or having long-term care needs. If people are interested in caring for the geriatric, and have love and compassion for their fellow man, then Poplar Springs Nursing Center is a great place to work. Meridian Community College can educate and successfully train individuals for this area of the medical field,” states Frank Land, Licensed Nursing Home Administrator. “Have passion and desire to provide the best care/service you possibly can. If you do not absolutely love your work, you will not succeed.”

And to business owners he says this, “Be the capstone or pinnacle of your industry and let all others strive to emulate your success. Treat your staff with the utmost dignity and respect. It may be your name on the building, however, your staff is the glue that holds everything together.”

“Poplar Springs Nursing Center belongs to the chamber because in business it is important to network and be involved in the community in which we live. Membership allows you the opportunity to better care and serve your clients, customers, or residents. EMBDC helps keep us up-to-date and relevant with all that is going on around our community. As we continue to network with each other, we strengthen the bond within Meridian.”
