St. Patrick School

Where Faith Meets Knowledge

Starting with a 30-student population in a single building, St. Patrick School came into existence in 1873!  The school was staffed by the Sisters of Mercy religious community.  After it grew into two separate schools (one for boys and one for girls) in 1924, it then merged into one co-educational parochial institution for grades one through twelve.  In 1951, the high school section of the school closed, followed by the closing of the junior high in 1968.  St. Patrick School is an outreach of St. Patrick Catholic Church and the Catholic Community of Meridian.  It provides abundant opportunities for people of all socioeconomic, ethnic, and faith backgrounds to come together and pursue a common goal:  a value-based education for their children.

St. Patrick School offers an academic level of excellence while providing their students with tools to strengthen their unique skills as they develop to their full potential. “We are consistently above the national average in all subjects for the ACT Aspire Test.  St. Patrick is the only non-public school in our area that is accredited by the Mississippi Department of Education.  The size of our school allows our teachers to focus on each student individually and give them the personal attention they need to help them be successful,” says Montse Frias, Principal.  “We are a diverse school with a strong emphasis on developing strong moral values and respect of all nationalities, races, religions, pursuits, and beliefs.”

“Though we are a Catholic school with an emphasis on a Christian learning environment, students do not have to be Catholic to attend St. Patrick.  We are a diverse, multidenominational, multicultural community.  All are welcome,” adds Emily Thompson, Director of Development.

St. Patrick believes in the importance and relevance of the arts with music education, spanish, and public speaking incorporated into the curriculum for all ages.  Fourth, fifth, and sixth graders participate in the Strings Program, where they learn to play the ukulele!  Students and parents consistently refer to St. Patrick School as their “second family.”  This is a place where students know they can be themselves, and that is invaluable.

“We believe in the future of Meridian and the future is our students.  We, as a school, need to connect to business and community members in a unique way and belonging to the Chamber offers advertising opportunities that are invaluable.” adds Ms. Thompson. “Our prayer is that each student gains the confidence to pursue their dreams as they venture forth into the community as educated, compassionate, Christian members of our society.”
