What do you remember most about the back porch? Maybe the porch at your house, your parents or your grandparents. One favorite back porch memory features making homemade ice cream; adding ice and salt and sitting on top of the bucket while an adult turned the handle. The anticipation was almost more than you could bear. Shelling peas and butterbeans, shucking corn and cleaning fish to fry are other great memories. The Back Porch of Meridian was started in 2021 by three friends sitting together on the back porch one evening. They started talking about how much they loved their back porch get-togethers. One thing led to another, ideas were tossed around, and before they knew it, they decided to pool their money and start a business. Their strategy was to have everything under one roof for a great back porch get together plus lots of other items to keep everyone happy.
“This place reminds me of a little Buc-ee’s!” said one satisfied customer. They were talking about the great inventory at The Back Porch of Meridian. They specialize in grills and accessories, fryers, coolers, outdoor games and gear, customized woodworking, fresh and frozen food, authentic Louis Vuitton 
bags, cornhole boards, outdoor furniture, and much more. With all this merchandise available, this locally owned business has the goal of bringing families together again on the back porch.
Advice for new business owners, “Join the chamber for support and exposure. The local support has been amazing for our small business,” says Justin Hardy, owner. “Take notes, hire a good tax lawyer, and hire a good CPA. Leave money in the budget for setbacks. You quickly learn to thrive off the risk. And remember, if you make everyone happy, you’re not doing enough business.”
